Reverend George Eric Britt, a native of East Orange, NJ is an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), and currently serves as the pastor of Mt. Teman AME Church in Elizabeth, NJ. Committed to servant leadership, Pastor Britt is a champion of church and community partnerships.
Prior to being appointed pastor of Mt. Teman on June 13, 2015, Reverend Britt served as pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church in Asbury Park, NJ (2011-2015) and St. Thomas AME Church in Newark, NJ (2008-2011). Following God’s directives and in partnership with Allen Chapel community of faith, Reverend Britt led Allen Chapel through a season of transformation that resulted in Allen Chapel being recognized as a revived church committed to prayer and its community. As a servant leader in Asbury Park, Reverend Britt served on the leadership team of the Asbury Park Community Action network (Asbury Park CAN); and as the chair of Asbury Park CAN’s Health Care Committee, he led a team of healthcare advocates committed to promoting health and wellness.
While serving as the pastor of St. Thomas AME Church in Newark, NJ, Reverend Britt led St. Thomas in renewing its commitment to the community. Thus, resulting in a diversity of transformative initiative/ministries and partnerships, including a Community Partnership with the Alexander Street School, expansion of the Ivy Hill/Vailsburg Basketball League, and the church’s partnership with the West Ward Collective, a ward-based non-profit comprised of community stakeholders committed to developing solutions to improve the West Ward. In addition, Pastor Britt expanded the church’s evangelistic outreach via a partnership with Jesus Peace Music, creators of Christ-based Streetball (basketball) Tournaments.
Before his elevation to the pastorate, Reverend Britt was a member of the St. mark AME Church Ministerial Staff in East Orange, NJ. At St. Mark, eh was one of the coordinators of the Boys to Men Ministry, a ministry dedicated to “helping young men become mature Christian men by studying and applying the Word of God.”
In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, he is a manager in The City of East Orange’s Department of Property Maintenance. Reverend Britt is a graduate of Morehouse College (Bachelor of Arts) in Atlanta, Georgia and Drew University Theological School (Master of Divinity). While at Drew, he served as The Greater Allen AME Cathedral of NY as an Intern in the Supervised Ministry Program. Prior to entering Drew, he worked in the oil industry for 16 years with Texaco Inc. and Shell Oil Company. And throughout his professional career, he has distinguished himself as a leader by serving in a number of roles, including: Education Chair of the New York Section of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, and former president of the East Orange Public Library Board of Trustees.
Recognizing how blessed he is, Reverend Britt cannot stop praising God for allowing him to experience the love of Jesus, and the love of his family, especially his wife, Merlyn Williams-Britt, Esquire.
